About Us

Growing up on a commercial cattle farm in the foothills of North Carolina, I spent many days working cows, working with hay, and seeing the beauty of life through plants and animals.  My parents had two heelers at the time and I always had the dream of owning my own as well.  I knew that if I wanted a great dog I would have to shell out about $1000.  Which was a lot for me at the time.  I worked for a local horse farm part time and saved money from cleaning stalls and other odds and ends.  At the age of 18 I started Grog Creek Kennel.  In the meantime I have graduated from Western Carolina University with my Bachelors of Business Administration with a Minor in Management and from Cleveland Community in Welding Technology.  We have also started a Registered Brahman herd.  Madison has also taken over a successful restaurant in Boiling Springs, The Quik Snak, also known as 'The Bulldog' to the locals.

About our acd's

Quality and Breed Standard:

If you are newer to this breed this may be a question for you; How do I tell if this is a quality dog?  When breeding we strive to meet breed standard (set forth by the AKC) and for disposition, each is equally important.  Today many breeders breed for "Chocolate, Slate, Cream, and White " coloring.  None of which are recognized by the AKC.  I often see dogs with black spots on the body however this is not desired, it is accepted.  In short the breed should have a smooth gait, strong and compact appearance, a short smooth coat with no spots on the body.  Should be loyal and protective.  You may have breeders tell you "oh this is a really rare color."  This is again where a reputable breeder is important.  There is a few bad apples who look to prey upon people new to the heeler breed that may not understand or care what true quality is.

The Base Value & Price:

This is a huge investment in our and your lives.  When preparing for a new addition to your family many aspects must be considered.  We get asked often and heckled about our price and trust me I get it.  I used to feel like that too until I seen what all is involved.  Health test, food, vet bills, AKC paperwork, etc., will quickly rack up to thousands of dollars.  Purchasing a puppy from a reputable breeder is the best way to ensure success and happiness with your new addition.  An old friend of mine always told me "If you buy good stuff when you get home you'll have good stuff. ". Sure it sounds silly but its true.  Many people sacrifice quality for a cheaper price and end up being unhappy by the commitment they make. That's why we stand behind everything we breed.  We do applicable health test and even offer a 1 year health guarantee. Quality is a habit here not an action.

Training and Development:

When planning for an 8 week old puppy training and development of the puppy must be considered.  The Australian Cattle Dog is a breed that requires significant amounts of exercise and mental stimulation.  With the right care the breed is easily adaptable to many living conditions.  We have clients who enjoy their pets in the country and the city. These dogs were bred to be hardy, tough, and easy keeping.  Although our pups are raised outdoors, they are easy to transition inside and potty train as long as you put in the effort to train them.

Expectation vs. Reality:

With the boom of social media and the internet most business is done through photos and videos.  Many people we come across are either first time puppy buyers or lack the experience to avoid falling victim to the scammers in our industry. When we take pictures we try to get multiple shots where you can see all the unique markings he/she may have.  Be aware of breeders who do not allow you to inspect puppies or visit.  We are always available in person or through the phone. We will never photoshop pictures to enhance our puppies quality.  We will also work with you individually to understand exactly what you're looking for whether it be a family pet, show dog, or herding, we are here for you.

Reputation and Future of the Seller:

This is a very important aspect for all our buyers.  Our integrity is something that is important to our clients but its also very important to us.  When most people get cheated they quietly move on because honestly its humiliating.  I've personally had issues with a bad breeder before and had issues with a dog getting registered and trust me its no fun.  We do not want our clients to endure the pain that we have endured.  When you buy a puppy from us you're not only buying a pet but you're buying our brand and a piece of our heart.  Its important for y'all to look at us and think where do we see this breeder in 5 years?  Many kennels are either based on individual fame or program notoriety. Kennels based on individual fame thrive on that individual to make the connections, and sales for that kennel. Program notoriety thrive on the customer and how we can better serve you.  That's why we always have 2 phone numbers listed and you can contact us through email and Facebook as well.  Program based kennels like US are here to help YOU with your new addition.  We want to see you achieve your goal and dreams.  WE WORK FOR YOU.

Our Promise to You:

We strive to breed the most correct Australian Cattle Dogs in the South East. We are still a smaller kennel but we have made a promise to ourselves to never place Quantity before Quality.  We will always stand behind what we produce. Being a cattle producer this the key stone in my life.  We do not doctor pictures, birthdates, health test, etc.  We will be transparent and honest throughout the whole process.  We also implement fair pricing throughout.  You are our future and we want to build a relationship with you.  We have clients all throughout the eastern seaboard and beyond.  We hope to add you as apart of our forever family as well.  Our doors are always open please let us know how we can serve you better.

Why, Why, Why????

I often hear why Australian Cattle Dogs. For me its simple, its the intelligence, hardiness, and companionship.  This breed has many top qualities that we all should admire.  Apart from their beautiful coat, they also sport an awesome personality and a toughness we could all use.  (I wish I could get kicked in the face by 2000 pound bull and keep going).  If you are looking for a dog to join you and your family for a lifetime of adventure look no further.  They will go all day in the blazing sun or the freezing snow.  So adaptable to many climates, living conditions, and task.  If you go so will they, some call them shadow dogs because they will always be in your shadow.  Come see for yourself just how wonderful these dogs can be.
